Send Smiles - Our review
We review Send Smiles flower delivery with an example delivery and give our recommendation.
Recently, a representative from Send Smiles reached out to us and asked if we'd be interested in having their arrangements added to our site. Being the leading floral delivery search engine, we often get requests from floral companies to add their listings to our page. However, not everyone makes the cut. We extensively review the companies we list and test their arrangements for delivery and quality. Send Smiles was nice enough to provide us multiple bouquets for our review, however that will not influence our honest review of their service.
Who is Send Smiles?
Per their own description, Send Smiles is a company that aims to change the way people send and receive flowers by offering on-demand, hand-delivered flowers. They are based in Chantilly, Virginia, and all orders are received and filled in-house to ensure a high level of artistry and reliability in every delivery. In fact, they make same-day hand deliveries to Washington, DC and surrounding Virgina and Maryland areas. The company stands out due to its transparent pricing, curated floral and gift selections, and consistent fulfillment of promises. The company has been in business for over 100 years and is led by a team with extensive experience in the floral industry. Send Smiles imports flowers from farms in Colombia and Ecuador that are known for their quality, maintenance, and socially-conscious practices. The farms are certified by various organizations that focus on environmental and social sustainability, and employees receive various benefits.
What's the ordering process like?
Since the two bouquets we received were provided by Send Smiles, we did not go through the ordering process to get them. However, we have since gone through the ordering process all the way up to the "Place Order" button, so we can give an overview of the whole process. From start to finish, the process was very intuitive and focused on finding an arrangement and getting it sent. There are no upsells that get in your way, and the process flows like you would expect it to. One thing that makes the process even simpler is the fact that both the vase and delivery are included in the price. So, there is no deciding about if a vase is worth the cost or which vase looks the best. And since delivery fees are also included (both for local delivery and shipping), there is no need to decide if delivery on a special day is worth a potential upcharge. If delivery is available for that day, it is included. We liked how simple and focused the order process was.
How does the arrangement arrive?
We chose the Purple Flower Garden bouquet delivered to one of staff members in Indiana. Since we are outside their Washington, DC same-day, in-person delivery area, our order arrived shipped by FedEx. It came in a navy blue, Send Smiles-branded box. Inside, the bouquet was well-packed and wrapped inside a burlap cloth. A "Happy is Here" card contained the greeting message from the sender. Opening the cardboard door that held the greeting card revealed the vase, which held the bottom of the bouquet in place. A wooden dowel was inserted into the bouquet to prevent any vertical movement that would smash it against the top of the box. There was wet foam wrapped around the bottom of the stems to keep the stems moist while in shipping. Flower food was also provided. Overall, we were impressed with how well the bouquet ws packed and the overall professional look and feel of the packing.
How was the bouquet?
Send Smiles prides itself on arrangements that "Arrive exactly as pictured, guaranteed" and both arrangements we received were exactly as pictured. We liked the freshness and fullness of the bouquets we received and their vibrant colors. Unfortunately, we didn't get any pictures of the first bouquet, but it was a Christmas-themed bouquet that had red roses and carnations. The reds really popped and that bouquet lasted over 2 weeks. This bouquet lasted just as long. Honestly, it looked just as good as it arrived even after a week. We were definitely impressed with the freshness and quality of the flowers and greenery used.
Would we recommend Send Smiles?
Definitely. We were impressed with the simplicity of ordering, the quality of the packing, the freshness, quality, and longevity of the flowers used, and the price. Additionally, at the time of this writing, they have a 4.9-star rating on Google from 575 reviews. We think the only downsides are that they have a limited number of bouquets at any one time, so if there is a particular flower you are looking for that may not be commonly in season, you may be out of the luck, but what they do offer is a good value for the money. We'll definitely consider them the next time we send flowers, and we unanimously decided them to include them on SendFlowers.io!
Update 9/1/2023
Send Smiles no longer includes delivery in their price outside their Washington D.C. local delivery area. It seems that there is now a flat $10 shipping fee.
I sent their Tropicana Delight bouquet to my mom and was still impressed by their quality. It looked just as good as the photo on their web site.
